Many of the tests completed in PCI Scanning are sensible for anyone running a website that collects user information. Think of it like a hacker test, running all the known hacks that have been found and documented. It’s a pretty serious test.
This testing is mandatory for merchants taking credit cards over the internet. Note you are not only answerable to your bank, and their conditions of the merchant facility, but by extension the terms of Visa and Mastercard.
You will be given a report each quarter after the tests have completed, and you should respond to the issues within.
