Cases of acanthamoeba keratitis have been reported in the United Kingdom, leading to warnings against using tap water to clean contact lenses.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column]

In true British tabloid tradition, The Sun released the story with the banner headline: “Contact Lens Fungus Ate Away My Eye”. It is understood acanthamoeba keratitis has been confirmed in two cases, with two more cases of fusarium.

The British Contact Lens Association has issued a statement highlighting the importance of regular contact lens checkups.
