Apple did some really good work on pricing up their iPods. This makes it really difficult to make a decision on what to get, especially if you are looking at price per megabyte.
I don’t own one of these, but it was interesting to see how they worked it all out, whatever you think you need, the next one up is so tempting because of the small price difference but the massive jump in memory allowance. For example for £50 more on a 20GB you can go to a 40GB photo version. Check out the table, and the graph – both use the same values.
GB | £ | £/GB | |
ipod shuffle | 0.512 | £70.00 | £136.72 |
ipod shuffle | 1 | £100.00 | £100.00 |
ipod mini | 4 | £140.00 | £35.00 |
ipod mini | 6 | £170.00 | £28.33 |
ipod | 20 | £210.00 | £10.50 |
ipod photo | 30 | £250.00 | £8.33 |
ipod photo | 40 | £290.00 | £7.25 |
ipod photo | 60 | £310.00 | £5.17 |
They worked it out so well that once you decide you want a Shuffle for £70, you look up and see that you can justify the double in memory for only £30 to 1GB. Or you could even double your spend and up your capacity to 4GB, killer!
So how big – and how full is your iPod?
